Woodcutting on Choggiung Land

It is Choggiung’s responsibility as stewards of our land to protect this valuable asset for our shareholders. In response to concerns about diminishing supplies of old growth wood and increasing harvest efforts on Choggiung owned land, the Board of Directors of Choggiung made the decision to restrict all wood cutting activities on corporation land to shareholder (Choggiung and BBNC) personal use only.

All commercial wood harvests (pertaining to both shareholders and non-shareholders) will no longer be permitted. The change in policy is effective immediately and will be in place for 2013-2015 and beyond.

This permit is issued only for the current year and only on Choggiung land.
A shareholder is defined as Choggiung or BBNC shareholder.
This wood cutting permit is for Shareholders Only. Shareholders can harvest dry wood for personal use only. Commercial sale of wood taken on Choggiung land is not allowed.
All permit holders are required to keep a record of the number of cords cut and it must be returned prior to renewing your permit.
Only dry/dead spruce trees can be cut. All of the tree trunk up to a 4″ diameter must be taken with the exception of the limbs.
The permit holder is responsible for cleanup of all equipment, supplies and garbage brought to the site. Burying garbage is expressly forbidden.
Personal use is defined as the harvesting of twelve (12) cords of wood or less per year.
Personal use permits are based on household/family. Household is defined as husband & wife and legal dependants residing in same household.
Monuments, markers or other signs will not be disturbed.
This permit does not give permission to cut on Native allotments. It is the permittee responsibility to determine the landowner.
Trees in the designated cutting area will be on a first-come, first serve basis. It is the responsibility of the permittee to remove the tree immediately after it is cut down.
Use of firearms on-site is prohibited.
Fires are prohibited.
Uses under this permit shall not interfere with berry picking or other subsistence activities.
This permit is not transferable and may not be shared, rented, leased, assigned, or in any way encumbered.
No interest in Choggiung Ltd. land is conveyed or established by this permit.
Alteration of a permit or misrepresentation of permit information will be grounds for revocation and future denial.
Choggiung Ltd. retains the right to deny, revoke or limit any permit at any time, with cause at the discretion of the Land Manager and without any recourse upon Choggiung Ltd. or subsidiary corporations.
The permit holder acknowledges that cutting wood is inherently a dangerous activity. Choggiung Ltd. will not be liable in any way, and will be indemnified and held harmless for any injuries or damages sustained as a result of the use under this permit.
